Dave Rubens
Veteran Board Member, Says Farewell
The Board of Directors sadly received the resignation of longtime board member, Dave Rubens. Dave’s experience with CSTOCK began in October 1986 when the first production Oliver was taking form. His son, Birch, was cast as one of the orphan boys, and volunteers were needed to build the set. Through the next several years, CSTOCK became a family activity, with everyone involved in some aspect of the show - Mom creating costumes, Dad building sets, and sisters performing on stage.

Dave joined the Board of Directors in 1990, serving two years as president and then ten years as treasurer, and found a whole new set of challenges. Over the first 5 years of its history, CSTOCK performed in ten different locations. Securing a permanent home for CSTOCK in the Silverdale Community Center was a milestone accomplishment. Now the work and efforts of the volunteers could be focused on developing the shows, and not on repeatedly creating a new theatre space. There have been many sources of satisfaction and pride over his 16 years at CSTOCK, but for Dave at the top of the list is a sense of pride as he has observed the growth and accomplishments of the young people - not just as performers, but as backstage crew, light technicians, and other technical areas. “CSTOCK’s contribution to the arts community and the youth is enormous.Having been a part of that from the workshops to the entertainment swells my heart with pride,” says Dave.

Dave’s fiscal leadership and his willingness to give of his time and resources to facilitate all of what happens at CSTOCK has been vital to our success. He will be sorely missed.

Dave’s looks forward to spending his time in new ways in the future, and says his volunteer efforts have not ended. He recently attended literacy tutor training and is enrolled as a tutor in the Literacy Council of Kitsap. Currently, he is tutoring a student who is working toward her GED or high school diploma.
