So Long, Farewell,
Sally Richardson has been providing props for CSTOCK productions
since the summer of 1994 - this means that in 7 years she has been the
resident CSTOCK prop mistress for 35 major productions! Like many of
us, Sally got involved in community theatre when her daughter, Jessie,
performed in the 1994 production of Peter Pan, and as an outlet
for her creative talents - and she has had lots of experience while
going on scavenger hunts for unusual items needed for plays. Sally's favorite aspect of managing props for theatre was creating
items for use on stage. For our first holiday production, Scrooge,
The Stingiest Man in Town, Pete Nance built a "turkey"
frame on which Sally applied paper mache and paint. The turkey was brought
out on stage in one of the final scenes of the show as the prize Christmas
goose for the Cratchitt family's Christmas dinner - and ended up taking
a bow with the cast at the end! For Bryan Da Silva's production of Gypsy,
Sally remembers getting an urgent call the week before opening that
the antique gramophone that was to be borrowed for the show was no longer
available, so Sally quickly did research and created one that looked
like the real thing! She also made a replica of a 1920's camera that
had to simulate the flash when a picture was being taken. And then there
were the numerous floral displays used in a wide variety of shows -
the farmer's market in My Fair Lady with the fruits and vegetables
was a favorite - along with assorted banners, weapons, feedstore paraphernalia,
and the list goes on. Sally continues to teach sixth grade at Esquire Hills Elementary. Her
daughter, Jessie, is now in college at Grinnell College in Iowa as a
chemistry major - and Sally herself is moving ahead with her plan to
earn her Master's Degree in Education with the Old Dominion program
at Bangor. We wish Sally the very best as she pursues her goals, and it is our
sincere hope we will see her often at the theatre. |
