Synopsis
of Show:
When it opened on Broadway in March 1943, Oklahoma!
launched a new era in the American musical and began the most successful songwriting
partnership in Broadway history. The show became the longest running of its time, running
for a marathon 2,212 performances over 5 years. The national tour lasted an unprecedented
10 1/2 years, visiting every single state, and playing before a combined audience of more
than 10 million people. In 1993, Oklahoma! celebrated its 50th Anniversary and became the
first Broadway musical honored with a commemorative U.S. postage stamp.
Set in Western Indian territory just after the turn of the century, the high-spirited
rivalry between the local farmers and cowboys provides the colorful background against
which Curly, a handsome cowboy played by Dan Engelhard, and Laurie, a
winsome farm girl played by Rebekah Nill, play out their love story. Dan
first appeared at CSTOCK in the 1994 production of The Pirates of Penzance and was most
recently seen in our 1998 season as Captain Von Trapp in The Sound of Music and as Mr.
Sowerberry in Oliver! A senior at the University of Washington, Rebekah Nill is appearing
for the first time at CSTOCK, although she has been in productions of Bye Bye Birdie,
Annie Warbucks, and South Pacific, and most recently at Gig Harbor in Godspell.
Playing the roles of Ado Annie and Will Parker are Julie Vogt from
Bainbridge Island and Josh Kluth from Bremerton. Carol Chollar
will appear as Aunt Eller and Lee Harwell as Jud Fry.
Trina Williamson will direct the cast of 45-plus. Trina has appeared on
stage all over Kitsap County, and most recently at CSTOCK as Maria in The Sound of Music
and as the Widow Corney in Oliver! She also directed last year's production of Nunsense at
CSTOCK and was the vocal director for Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat last
year at BCT.
Directing both vocal and instrumental music will be Bob Olcott of
Poulsbo, who was the musical director for productions of Oliver!, Camelot, and Into the
Woods at CSTOCK. Choreography will be directed by Diana Lau and David
Benefiel. Costumes are being designed and coordinated by Kathy Kershaw.
Trevor Iwaszuk will design the lighting. Managing the cast and crew
backstage are Leslie Engelhard and Melissa Kelf.
The October 3 performance will be hosted by the Central Kitsap Montessori Parents
Association as a fundraiser. Fundraiser tickets at $12 each are available by calling Diane
Reichel at 692-4706.
